There are many different reasons as to why a dark circle may appear under the eyes, but fortunately there are several solutions available.
The most common reason for dark circles under the eyes, if not because of illness or medication, is that the capillaries under the surface have become damaged or enlarged. The skin under the eyes is very thin and delicate so not only can the skin become damaged more easily, but any discoloration will be more visible than elsewhere on the face. Most cosmetic companies include a dark circle reducing cream in their product line which can range greatly in price. Simply because a cream costs more, doesn’t necessarily mean it will work any better than a cheaper brand, however. There are certain ingredients to look for in any good under eye skin cream or serum, which include vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10, the natural skin lightener Emblica and the capillary constricting substance Hesperidin.
These eye creams will strengthen the under eye tissue and help repair damage that has occurred through age or neglect. However, if the dark circle is hereditary, which is generally more prevalent in people with a darker skin tone, it may be necessary to use an under eye concealer that will lighten the skin tone using light-refracting pigments.
Helping the dark circles from within is also very important. Eating a diet that is rich in iron and anti-oxidant containing foods such as blueberries and pomegranate can help, as can reducing salt and ensuring the body is kept well hydrated throughout the day. With proper care, plenty of rest and a good skin cream, any dark circle under the eyes should begin to diminish over time.
